Let’s talk facts. Zambia is making bold strides in halal tourism. With a renewed focus on welcoming halal-conscious travellers, the country is developing halal-certified hotels, safari lodges, and dining experiences to cater to the growing demand.

At the Asia Islamic Tourism & Trade Expo 2024, Zambia’s Second Secretary of Tourism, Twaambo C. Kayombo, highlighted the country’s commitment to sustainable and halal tourism, inviting investors to explore new opportunities in Zambia’s Northern Circuit. "We want to showcase Zambia as the premier destination and attract both tourists and investors to our vibrant tourism sector," explained Kayombo.

Meanwhile, Shahid Yousuf Adam, Director of Orient Travel and Tours Zambia, pointed out how the hospitality sector adapts to provide Sharia-compliant environments, ensuring Muslim travellers feel comfortable and welcomed. Adam said, "Zambia is evolving with the global demand for halal tourism, and we are creating environments that are fully compliant with Sharia law, making it an attractive destination for Muslim tourists."

Zambia is at the heart of Southern Africa and is a landlocked country known for its vast wilderness, diverse wildlife, and vibrant cultures. Home to the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Zambia offers breathtaking landscapes and thrilling adventure activities such as white-water rafting and bungee jumping.

The country boasts 20 national parks and 34 game management areas, providing sanctuary to diverse wildlife, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes. Zambia's pristine rivers and lakes, such as the Zambezi and Lake Tanganyika, are ideal for fishing, boating, and birdwatching.

Zambia is making a bold move in the halal travel space, and it’s an excellent opportunity to come and listen to what they have to say on the 3rd April.

IWTTF: The Driving Force Behind Inclusive Travel

IWTTF amplifies underrepresented voices in the industry. Founded by Alessandra Alonso, IWTTF is at the forefront of creating leadership, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities for women and marginalised groups in travel.

Alonso has been shaking up the industry for nearly two decades and is a fierce advocate for gender diversity and inclusive travel, making IWTTF a crucial part of this conversation. This includes in 2004, when she co-founded Shine, a company committed to encouraging gender diversity, and launched the Shine Awards for Women's Achievement in travel, tourism, and hospitality.

Working with WTTC and KPMG over the years, her dedication to uplifting women resulted in the development of Women in Travel CIC in 2017, which has since become a pioneering force in the industry.

Alonso may not focus on halal travel specifically, but her mission to make travel more inclusive fits right in. What she has to say at the event will be very intriguing to hear.
